A friendship was crowned at N.C. A&T’s homecoming.
My freshman year was the first time i experienced an A&T homecoming and I had the opportunity of serving as Miss Freshman 2002-2004. It was an experience like no other. It was also the year I met my “Sister Queen” and lifelong friend Latiera Streeter (Class of 2005), who was serving as Miss Junior 2003-2004. Latiera went on to run for Miss A&T and I played a significant role in her campaign. She won and served as Miss A&T 2004-2005. The following year, I had the honor of being voted as Miss A&T 2005-2006. Homecoming 2005 would be my most memorable homecoming experience and it involved my best friend Latiera crowning me during my coronation. We knew this was just the beginning of an unbreakable bond and friendship for years to come.
Latiera and I both ended up relocating to the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia area where our friendship began to blossom even more. We went on to co-found an organization called Queen to Queen in 2011 that we operated for several years. The organization had the purpose of connecting historically Black college and university Queens to help support and guide future generations of Queens. We are now raising future Aggies, who are also friends.
We have come home to Aggieland together for homecoming since graduating and are affectionately referred to as “The Queens” when seen at the game, on the yard or even attending the cookout for College of Business, of which we are both products. When you see one, you see the other.
Homecoming will forever be special to us because it connects to our beginnings as friends. Coming back every year reminds us of why we chose A&T and how being an Aggie has helped shape who we are as individuals and been the catalyst for the growth of our friendship over the years. In 2015, I decided to make a collage of our years together at homecoming and each year we continue to add to the memories. We are excited about celebrating the centennial homecoming in no other way but together!
